Caring for your hair

How soft and shiny your hair will depend on its type and your overall health, but also on your diet and on how you care for it each day: washing, drying, brushing… Learn the right habits to adopt on a daily basis for radiant, healthy hair!

• Shampooing every 2 to 4 days is enough to keep your hair clean. Choosing to wash your hair every day is a matter of personal comfort. Note, however, that shampooing your hair too often can cause it to become greasy much quicker.

• Choose a mild shampoo suited to your hair type. Apply a small quantity and work it into a lather. While it’s in your hair, massage your scalp gently with your finger tips: this will stimulate blood flow and help bring essential nutrients to your hair’s roots. Lastly, rinse very carefully: shampoo residue makes hair heavy and dull.

• No need to subject yourself to an ice cold rinse: there is no scientific evidence to support the myth that cold water makes your hair shiny.

• Once a week, apply a nourishing conditioning treatment after shampooing. The oils that are applied and left on for some time before shampooing also provide your hair with deep nourishment.

• If your hair is fine, dry or brittle, wait until it is dry to untangle it: hair is more fragile when wet. In any case, use small movements, starting at the ends and working your way up to the roots gradually.

• After washing, pat your hair dry with a soft towel. Do not rub. Let it dry naturally whenever you can.

• If you use a hair dryer, opt for warm rather than burning hot air which is damaging to the hair fibre, and keep the dryer a good distance away from your hair.

• Avoid using hair straighteners, which are very damaging to the hair fibre. Use them only for special occasions.

• Don’t dye your hair more than once a month, and choose ammonia-free formulations, which are less corrosive.

• Brush your hair in the morning and evening with a natural bristle brush, as these are gentler on the hair fibre. Brushing in the evening rids the hair of any dust and impurities accumulated during the day.

• Eat a balanced and varied diet. Be especially mindful of getting enough protein, iron, zinc, magnesium and vitamins, as these nutrients are essential for healthy hair.

• Several times a year, take a course of hair-strengthening food supplements.
